F127: Unusual French Figural Chess Set

One side in fruitwood with the other side in stained fruitwood.
Deep patina throughout. Kings 9.5cms.
The pawns are represent different family crests.
The white king has a name on the side of his base. R Aubry - a French/German surname.
It seems the Aubry family were well known in central France.
The family crest includes the head of a helmeted knight very similar to the knights in this set.
