F131: Important Italian Continental Silver and Gilt Chess Set
Set has a lot of charm and each pieces is eloborately modeled with great detail, kings 13.5cms tall.
I am very impressed with the rooks as elephants and camels with towers.
Bishop and pawns modeled as figures wearing lion skins.
I think only a few examples known, early mid 20th century. Each figure screws into the associated gilt mental base.
Unmarked, gilt round bases on one side and square bases on the other.
The set has Christies auction stickers on the bases of several of the pieces from 2006.
