P262: Important early 19th century German mother-of-peal and abalone selenus chess set
Visually striking elegant set. Made from hundreds of pieces of polished MOP and Abalone shell. A tour-de-force in craftsmanship, the materials are fragile and difficult to turn etc.
Kings height 10cms. Still researching exact origin/marker (possibly Edel), any input welcome.
The photos of the mop pieces are a bit hit and miss, due to the reflective and transparent nature of the material, I struggled, may revisit.
