Unique and finely sculpted 'Indian Wars' Chess Set, second half of the 20th Century, King 14cms

The following is the artist's (James Kent Melton) description of the set :

32 Pieces depicting authentically rendered figures in the Indian Wars conflict.
Each piece was hand carved out of white walnut. Native American Indians are stained mahogany and the U.S.
Cavalry are stained walnut.

Native American Indian side includes the following characters: Satana, Pretty Owl, Chief Red Cloud, Wovoka, Crazy Horse
Chief Joseph, Geronimo, Dull Knife, Victorio, and Spotted Tail.

The U.S. Cavalry side includes the following characters: W. T. Cody, Julia Grant, U.S. Grant, W. B. Hickok, N.A. Miles
C.S. Crook, J.M. Chivington, W.T. Sherman, W. Bent, Kit Carson, M.A. Reno, and G.A. Custer.

Knights are represented by Horses and Buffalo. Teepees and Forts represent rooks.

This set is imposing and the carving is very expressive and detailed; catching the character of each figure which is a sculptural work of art in its own right.
