F8: Rare Antique 18th Century Geislingen Chess Set and fitted boxboard
Fine early set king 8.5cms, boxboard is inlaid with great patina
This is a charming early German 'Geislingen' bone chess set with Selenus type kings and queens, bishops as carved 3/4 length soldiers with colourful unforms and original tri-corn leather hats, knights as hippocamp horses, rooks as urn shaped towers and pawns with serrated baluster discs.
The chess set is contained in a quality 18thC. German inlaid veneered satinwood fitted chess box/board with fruitwood chess top surrounded by angled border with inlaid foliate in fruitwood. All four side panels of the box also with foliate inlay and one panel being detachable to reveal the hidden fitted drawer containing the chessmen.
